Connect Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants
HelpWell has an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and other assistants that support MCP can work in your workspace for you: check what is left to set up, write help articles, answer conversations, look up contacts, and build journeys and newsletters. The assistant works with your own role's permissions, and every change it makes is recorded in the audit log.
The server address is:
https://app.helpwell.ai/mcp
#Connect an assistant
In HelpWell, open Settings → AI assistants. It shows the address with a Copy button and the steps for each app:
- Claude (web, desktop and mobile): open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector, enter the name HelpWell and the address, press Add, then Connect.
- ChatGPT: open Settings → Apps and connectors → Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode, choose Create, enter HelpWell and the address, and choose OAuth.
- Claude Code: run
claude mcp add --transport http helpwell https://app.helpwell.ai/mcp, then/mcpto sign in. - Codex: run
codex mcp add helpwell --url https://app.helpwell.ai/mcp, thencodex mcp login helpwell. - Cursor and VS Code: use the Add to Cursor or Add to VS Code button on the settings page.
- Other apps: add a custom connector or remote MCP server with the address.
The app then opens HelpWell's sign-in. You choose:
- The workspace the assistant can reach. Each connection reaches one workspace.
- The access. Read only lets the assistant read but never change anything. Read and manage also lets it set up and change the workspace.
- The tool areas. Essentials are always on: the setup checklist, help articles, conversations and replies, contacts and reports. You can also switch on Support inbox, Help center, Contacts, In-app messages and forms, Journeys, Email marketing, Email setup and Workspace setup. Fewer areas keep the assistant quicker and more accurate.
Press Allow access to finish.
#What the assistant can and cannot do
- Anything that emails a customer, invites a teammate, or schedules or publishes a send shows you a preview first, and only happens once you confirm in the assistant.
- The assistant never sees or asks for API keys or passwords. When a step needs one, such as a Resend or OpenRouter key, it gives you a link to the HelpWell page where you paste it yourself.
- Tools follow your workspace's plan. Email marketing tools appear only on plans that include email marketing. After an upgrade they appear in the assistant's next chat, with nothing to reconnect.
- There are no tools that permanently delete a workspace or contacts, change billing, create API keys or change account security.
#Change or disconnect a connection
Open Settings → AI assistants in the workspace. Under Your connections to this workspace, change the access or tick the tool areas, then press Save changes. The assistant gets the new tools the next time it starts a chat. Disconnect ends its access at once.
You can also see every connection across your workspaces at app.helpwell.ai/connections. A connection ends when you disconnect it, when you leave the workspace, or when the sign-in you approved it from ends.
#What data it reaches
A connection can read what you could see in that workspace with the tool areas you chose: conversations and their messages, contacts and their fields, consent and tags, help articles, newsletters, journeys, reports and settings. It cannot read secrets such as API keys. Assistant apps handle what they receive under their own privacy terms, so connect only apps you trust.
